NORTH RONALDSAY - 16th May

Yet another stunning, sunny, cloudless day but with a cold westerly breeze to take the edge off; there were few migrants around the middle census route as totals comprised 3 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, a Blackcap, a Whitethroat, a late Goldcrest, a Goldfinch behind Antabreck, a Siskin and a flyover Redpoll sp.   Other birds included an excellent flock of 95 Bar-tailed Godwits on Ancum where the Whooper Swan lingers on and 12 Knot at Westness.

There was a pair of Garganey on Gretchen in the afternoon before the days highlight of a smart Nightingale caught at Holland in the evening.
