29th January - 3rd February

A few days at Spurn but it was generally very windy, cold and not really encouraging to be out in the field!   It was pretty similar to when I was here over the new year as little bits seen included a Water Rail caught along the canal, an adult Mediterranean Gull seen in fields just south of Holmpton as we went up for the big Scarborough night out, a Barn Owl seen on the edge of Easington and lingering birds from the start of the year comprising the two Scaup on Beacon Ponds, the 15 or so Whooper Swans in fields along Easington Straight and the Black Brant with the Brent Geese.

Spurn

A few days up at Spurn was fairly quiet as befits a cold January weekend but the long staying adult Black Brant was showing well close to the road along Easington Straight on Sunday.

This family party was on the dropping tide by The Crown - two 1st year birds at the front with the pale edges on the closed wing
