NORTH RONALDSAY - 10th May

A good day with plenty of bright, unbroken sunshine with a moderate SW wind; a Tree Pipit at the Obs was a good start but there were few other migrants up the west coast with the main feature being a big arrival of 850+ Arctic Terns including 400 roosting on the rocks at Lenswick, other birds included 3 Whimbrel, 8 Knot, 200+ Turnstone, a little male Sparrowhawk, 26 Wheatears and 5 Arctic Skuas.

Did the northern part of the middle census route in the afternoon where birds included my first Whitethroat of the year in Ancum Willows, a different male Sparrowhawk, a Short-eared Owl, a Collared Dove, 27 Bar-tailed Godwits, a Ruff, a House Martin and a Chiffchaff.
