Continuous rain throughout
the morning prevented much being done but a Red-throated Diver, 3 Velvet Scoter
and one flock of 80+ Oystercatchers flew south at sea; there was a few hours in
the middle of the day where the rain eased off to a few showers when I could
get out around the coast where there was a nice little arrival of 70+ Wheatears
(a few were seen coming in off the sea) with a couple of Yellow Wagtails and
Whinchats thrown in. At least 6
Kestrels also came in off along with a few wader flocks containing Knot,
Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Turnstone.
The rest of the coast was pretty quiet with few
waders although there were 2 Temminck’s
Stints and a Spotted Redshank in Verevågen and at least 9 Sparrowhawks, 3
Merlins and 3 Peregrines were kicking around; birds in Lebeltet then included
Lesser Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, 20+ Willow Warblers, Redstart, Tree Pipit,
Pied and Spotted Flycatchers, Treecreeper and Brambling.
The weather really closed in again mid-afternoon but
there were also 20+ Wheatears in Borhaug Harbour before another tiny weather
window allowed me a look at Vågsvollvåien where 8 Pintail was a notable count
along with 10 Wigeon and 4 Ruff.
Another orange flagged Redshank was along the coast, probably from the same place as the one last week
A selection of soggy, newly arrived Wheatears
