A glorious day with wall
to wall sunshine, light winds and warm temperatures; there was the merest hint
of a few autumn birds in the nets with a handful of new Robins, a Redstart and
a Goldcrest but it was still very quiet.
Given the conditions it was no surprise that there were a few bits
passing overhead, most notably 270+ Siskins heading NW and the first little
influx of 50+ Blue Tits coming out to the lighthouse (an interesting aside is
that the two Blue Tits we caught had not finished their post-juvenile moult yet
which is quite late so perhaps bigger numbers will appear later than usual
after a delayed breeding season?).
Other birds overhead included 2 Lapland Buntings, 5 Crossbills, a couple of Bramblings, 3 Grey
Wagtails and a handful of Tree Pipits with small numbers of Meadow Pipits but I
couldn’t help thinking that there should have been more; the coast was then
quiet with 2 Grey Plovers, 2 Knot and 2 Peregrines before the day’s highlight
came late afternoon with brief but good flight views of an awesome EAGLE OWL in Lebeltet Nord which,
judging by all the dead things deep in the plantation has been in there a
while!

Tree Pipit
I was too slow to get any pictures of the Eagle Owl but this largely eaten Goose (I think) three metres up a tree and this pile of Kestrel feathers probably indicated that he's been in this spot for a while!
