Heavy rain first thing
soon passed and reverted into a few showers; there were a few birds on the sea
in the morning including 53 Red-throated Divers, 33 Common Scoter, a Velvet
Scoter, 37 Brent Geese and 19 Arctic Terns.
A juvenile Black-tailed Godwit was on Vågsvollvåien first thing and a
Grey Wagtail and a couple of Tree Pipits were amongst a trickle of southbound
Meadow Pipits.
The coast was fairly quiet at lunchtime with 3 Little
Stints, a Grey Plover and 4 Pintail in Sevika but there were a few signs of new
migrants inland with 7 Redstarts, a Pied Flycatcher, 4 Chiffchaffs (the first
little influx this autumn), a Whitethroat, a Blackcap, a Treecreeper, 9+
Bramblings, 11+ Robins, 5+ Dunnocks and a flock of 15 Great Tits which came in
from the north, perhaps indicating that at least some Tits might be moving this
autumn after all!
Another little influx of Butterflies was also obvious
today with the sheltered patch of long grass at the end of Lebeltet containing
31 Red Admirals, 3 Painted Ladies, a Peacock, a couple of Large White and some
Silver Y’s while plenty more Red Admirals were seen moving north and coming in
off the sea.
