A much more autumnal
feeling day with a strong NE wind and plenty of cloud cover; most of the birds
through the morning were on the sea where 182
Pale-bellied Brent Geese went south (the first returning birds) along with
16 Red-throated Divers, 2 juvenile Black Guillemots, 9 Velvet Scoter and 5
Arctic Terns while 2 Merlins, 4 Peregrines and various Sparrowhawks and
Kestrels bombed around.
The windswept coast was fairly quiet with 7 Pintail
in Sevika, 3 Little Stints and a flyover Lapland
Bunting on the tip of Steinodden and a male Goshawk flying across the mouth of Verevågen the highlights; inland
birds included 2 Spotted Flycatchers, 3 Redstarts, 12+ Kestrels dotted around, a
few more Wheatears and at least 11 Herons.
3, 2, 1 Little Stints
Kestrel
