SWEDEN - 3rd October

Still very windy from the east but maybe slightly lighter than yesterday (at least first thing anyway) so ringing was again tricky although there were a few more birds caught; numbers were made up of 24 Reed Buntings (the reedbeds were full of them!), 14 Chiffchaffs and 13 Robins along with a couple each of Blackcap, Goldcrest and Lesser Redpoll.   A Hen Harrier drifted over and there were 2 Little Stints with the Dunlin flock on the estuary in front of the Obs.

A walk in the windy afternoon trying to find some sheltered spots out on the point was pretty quiet with a Tree Pipit and a Sparrowhawk the only different bits although there were decent numbers of Goldcrests, Chiffchaffs and Robins scattered around the place.

Another watch from the Obs in the evening produced a reduced 850 Cranes which came into roost much later than last night; other counts included 350 Barnacle Geese, 423 Wigeon, 212 Teal, 13 Goosander, 227 Dunlin, 26 Grey Plover, 17 Ruff and single Little Grebe, Spotted Redshank and Lesser Black-backed Gull.
