Rain in the morning which didn’t stop until gone midday put pay to any ringing for the day so I went out for a good long trudge around the coast from Sillhallsvik round to the point where the highlights comprised a good influx of 44+ Twite (14 at Sillhallsvik and 30+ on the point) and a Purple Sandpiper which flew past Sillhallsvik – both Swedish ticks!
Other birds included 6 Brent Geese, 16+ Snipe, 3 Redshank, a Red-throated Diver, a Black Guillemot, 3 Sparrowhawks south, a male Merlin, a Stonechat, 4 Bramblings and still a light sprinkling of Goldcrests, Chiffchaffs, Robins, Song Thrushes and Blackbirds (a little influx of those) – but noticeably fewer migrants than the past few days.
An hours look over the bay from the Obs in the evening produced an obvious influx of wildfowl with 1,090+ Barnacle Geese and 1,200+ Wigeon counted along with 6 White-fronted Geese, 25 Goosander, one of the Little Gulls again, a fine adult male Marsh Harrier, 2 Sparrowhawks and a Peregrine.
