NORTH RONALDSAY - 31st May

Very windy start to the day but this quickly began to calm down to practically nothing by the evening; there were no grounded migrants in the Brides census route but birds did include a Little Tern in Nouster with the Arctic Terns which also included at least 7 1st summer birds, 57 Knot on the beach at Brides, a brood of 7 half-grown Shoveler ducklings and 3 Collared Doves.

A walk late afternoon round the Obs produced another cracking female Red-necked Phalarope on Gretchen with a nice full summer plumaged Little Stint before the nets at Holland were full of baby Starlings and the only warbler of the day – a new Blackcap!

Can't get enough of Arctic Terns!

Three 1st summer Arctic Terns showing enormous variability in their plumages, especially the extent of the black cap and the bill colour

Fledgling Blackbird
