SWEDEN - 2nd September

Another similar day, chilly at the start but turning into a warm afternoon but there was a bit of high cloud which prolonged the morning’s activities; the bushes at Ason (especially those right by the bridge) were busier than they’ve been for a long time, full of flicking Willow Warblers and other migrants.

The ringing was good for the first couple of hours but without anything too exciting which included a Redstart, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, a notable arrival of Blackcaps and Willow Warblers, an excellent total of 22 Robins (must be some migrants) and a Nuthatch.

Other birds seen through the session included a drake Pochard (an Ason tick!), an Osprey, a White-tailed Eagle, a Sparrowhawk, 2 Black Woodpeckers, a flock of 14 Ravens, a fine adult male Wheatear on the bridge, 2 Grey Wagtails south, 2 Tree Pipits, a Brambling, a Redpoll and 2 Yellowhammers.
