Nice and sunny but the
lingering, strong, cold NW wind kind of spoiled things making it an effort to
go out and about; birds on the sea first thing included a Red-necked Grebe, 40
Red-throated Divers, a pair of Tufted Ducks and another 300 Common Gulls all
heading north while there was a trickle of passerines over the land with 5
Fieldfares, a Goldfinch and small numbers of Linnets, Meadow Pipits, Rock
Pipits, Chaffinches and White Wagtails. The drake Garganey and Common Teal x Green-winged Teal were still on Vågsvollvåien
while an adult White-tailed Eagle
flew low past the lighthouse giving brilliant views.
Despite the annoying wind there were a few birds
around in the afternoon with the first House
Martin of the year hawking along the sheltered side of Lebeltet with 6
Swallows, a single Ring Ouzel by the lighthouse, an increase to 75+ Linnets, 25+
White Wagtails and 20+ Yellowhammers and another 400+ Common Gulls through
while a few Wheatear pairs were getting down to singing and displaying around
the lighthouse.
There was some action out across the fields in the early
evening sun with 3 Hen Harriers including a fine adult male and two Merlins
whizzing around attacking them!
