Bright and sunny through the
day with a brisk southerly breeze made for a good morning of visible migration
with an hour’s watch from The Lurn producing 171 Swallows (great to see them
threading their way south over the sea through a big feeding flock of Arctic
Terns!), 5 Swifts, 11 Black-headed Gulls, 15 Dunlin and 13 Redshank while at
least 16 Arctic Skuas patrolled offshore chasing Terns and Tysties alike. There wasn’t too much else to mention with a
single juvenile Black-tailed Godwit on Gretchen the only thing of note.
The Tysties were really active, just reminding each other of the pecking order before they all disperse for the winter
