Flat calm in the morning
with a moderate breeze springing up through the day; opened the nets again
first thing with the only bird of note being another Garden Warbler with a
single Swift overhead. I then walked
round the northern census route where birds included a Black Redstart at the Lighthouse, two of
the juvenile Mediterranean
Gulls in fields near Senness, a
Kestrel, 7 Knot, 9 Bar-tailed Godwits, 48 Curlew and 400 Golden Plover.
Also of note were two juvenile Ravens cruising around
the top end – immigrants from somewhere else, a juvenile Little Grebe on Garso
– the first evidence of successful breeding this year and a flock of 9 Twite by
the Lighthouse – all juveniles, probably from here.
