Apart from a few showers in the morning it was a nice
start to the day with the nets at Holland producing a Sedge Warbler (with brood
patch) and one of the 6 Collared Doves that were in the garden.
There were 3 Red-necked Phalaropes on Gretchen –
based on plumages, all three were different birds to the ones present over the
last week before a walk up the west coast census route produced the first
returning Purple Sandpiper of the
‘autumn’ with 50 Turnstone and 464 Golden Plover (360 near Holland). Persistent rain moved in mid-afternoon
pretty much ending the day!
These were the best two pictures of the Phalaropes
which included this individual which has started its post breeding moult
and this distinctive, dark, small individual
