A beautiful, sunny and calm morning soon gave way to
thick cloud and spots of rain; the nets at Holland first thing produced a few
baby Wrens, Starlings and House Sparrows while a Heron flew in from the south,
mobbed by every Arctic Tern in the south of the island! Birds around the Hooking census route then
included 22 Bar-tailed Godwits, a Pintail, 24+ Sand Martins (with 15 burrows
counted in the sand cliff on The Links opposite North Gravity including at
least 3-4 with birds seen coming at going) and still 110+ fledgling
Black-headed Gulls around Hooking with a large proportion of the adults already
dispersed.
