NORTH RONALDSAY - 5th July

Another glorious day but with a bit of a chilly wind and a bit of cloud coming and going; did some Tystie mist-netting first thing at Gretchen, we only managed to catch three but there were now 4 Red-necked Phalaropes on the loch along with 6 Dunlin and a couple of nice spangly, juvenile Redshanks.   Checked out the remaining Arctic Tern colonies in the afternoon but only Trinley and North Links have any birds left with 25 chicks ringed between the two locations.

and arty silhouettes

but they were always being targeted by Arctic Skuas

who also showed well
