NORTH RONALDSAY - 10th July

A great day, calm and generally sunny but some spells of heavy cloud cover, caught 2 Chiffchaffs at Holland first thing (a new one and a re-trap from May).   Birds around the north of the island then included some impressive numbers of birds but nothing really different with 3,500+ Arctic Terns around Bewan and Iris Taing, 135 Dunlin, 98 Knot, a Whimbrel, 350 Golden Plover and 80 Turnstone.
There were plenty of birds on the way up to the north end as well as the grass fields were busy getting cut for silage and held 200+ Oystercatchers, 170+ Common Gulls, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 30 Curlew and hundreds of Starlings.   Two Red-necked Phalaropes were still on Gretchen.
