NORTH RONALDSAY - 8th April

A similar day to yesterday with lightish westerly winds and a fair amount of brightness; birds around the Hooking census route included my first 2 Bonxies of the year which flew south over The Links, a little influx of 16 Wheatears, a Fieldfare, 2 Rooks, 58 Sanderlings, a Great-northern Diver, the Pink-footed Goose, a single Black-tailed Godwit on Hooking and a Woodpigeon (no sign of the Kingfisher).

Caught 2 Chiffchaffs at Holland in the evening along with a Woodpigeon with a huge, fresh, bleeding hole in its chest – I could see the green Clover shoots poking out of its crop that it had just eaten, it was fine though flying off like a rocket when I released it!   112 Linnets came in to roost and 100+ Meadow Pipits were in the surrounding fields.

and a Common Gull

Typical response when a Bonxie flies through!
