LANDGUARD - 12th April

Clear and very calm overnight so unsurprisingly it was very cold first thing along with a heavy frost but it soon developed into a lovely warmish day; there was a little turnover of birds as totals today comprised the singing Black Redstart on the fort still, 2 Blackcaps caught, 3 Chiffchaffs (including a re-trap from July 2020 – it was ringed as a young juvenile so is presumably a pretty locally-bred bird returning to its natal area, as they don’t breed on site), 3 Goldfinches, single Heron and Little Egret which slightly oddly flew north together, two adult Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Robins, a Rook north and 4 Wheatears.
