NORTH RONALDSAY - 3rd September

A very pleasant day with plenty of sunshine and a light westerly breeze; Holland first thing was, for a change quite productive with a new Barred Warbler the pick along with the first Blackcap of the autumn, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Willow Warbler and a Reed Bunting while the Black Redstart was again round the buildings.   I then walked round the Brides census route where the highlight was re-finding the adult Buff-breasted Sandpiper on the loch (it was originally seen on 28th August!); other birds included a Garden Warbler, 2 Willow Warblers, 4 Sedge Warblers, 3 Kestrels, a Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Red-throated Divers and 2 Ravens which went high south.   Also of note was a little arrival of Red Admirals, Painted Ladies and Silver Y’s.

A second new Barred Warbler was caught at Holland in the evening.
