NORTH RONALDSAY - 7th March

Despite the wet and windy morning there was a nice selection of birds around the A census route as the highlights including a new huge, white 2nd winter Glaucous Gull in fields at the back of Nouster, a smart 1st winter male Merlin with a bulging crop at Gretchen and a good total of 4 Stonechats scattered – two males and two females.

Other totals included 16+ Blackbirds, a Fieldfare, a male Pied Wagtail, 2 Woodpigeons, 2 Redwings, 2 Woodcock, 2 Robins, 64+ Skylarks, 3 Linnets, 149 Greylag Geese and 80 Black-headed Gulls.

The Northern Harrier did a ridiculously close flyby of the Obs at lunchtime, passing within metres of the bar window!
