The wind eased down gradually through the day with only a
few hail showers to contend with but the E census route was very quiet with
nothing really around the crofts yet and just the usual waders etc. at Westness
including 90 Purple Sandpipers and 40 Turnstone along with a very distinctive,
very dark 1st winter Herring Gull.
A Robin and 6 Redwings at Ancum Willows were the only passerines of note
while 31 Bar-tailed Godwits were on the loch.
Opened
the nets at Holland in the late afternoon where the Northern Harrier and a Merlin flew past, 4 Pied Wagtails flew over and
12 Linnets came in to roost while 269 Golden Plover were around Gretchen.
