Little change in the
weather apart from a bit more cloud and general haziness; the first few hours
of the day when the wind was a bit lighter produced a nice range of things in
the nets (even if numbers are still very poor!) including a smart 1st
winter Barred Warbler, another Icterine Warbler and single Garden
Warbler, Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler.
Offshore another juvenile Little
Gull went south along with a trickle of waders including 62 Oystercatchers,
59 Ringed Plover, 42 Sanderling, 50 Dunlin and 7 Ruff while a young Marsh
Harrier came in off the sea.
A few other things around the lighthouse in the
morning included a Grey Wagtail, 22 Crossbills, a flyover Spotted Redshank and
a few Yellow Wagtails and Tree Pipits.
I again spent a few hours covering the sheltered spots inland where
there was a Wood Warbler in Lebeltet
(actually the first one I’ve seen here in the field and not in the hand!), a
very good total of 54 Whinchats –
including an excellent flock of 33 in Vatnemarka, the Goshawk still, 3 Redstarts, 3 Pied Flycatchers and a juvenile
Cuckoo.
There was a further reduction in wader numbers around
the coast late afternoon with 4 Spotted Redshanks the highlight while a little
male Merlin was tucking into a Dunlin on the shore at Karveneset.
