A similar start to
yesterday, cloudy and chilly with a bit of a stronger easterly breeze; there
was little in the nets but there was a light wader passage offshore with 80+
Knot heading south-east along with smaller numbers of Dunlin, Oystercatchers,
Bar-tailed Godwits and Turnstone while a decent feeding flock of 50+ Gannets
attracted at least 5 Bonxies and an Arctic Skua to their midst. Single Sparrowhawk and Kestrel also went
south and 2 Ruff were with the usual selection of Tringa’s around Vågsvollvåien.
The coast was fairly unremarkable with an increase to
39 Teal in Sevika where another Sparrowhawk and 2 Peregrines (adult male and adult
female) made a couple of unsuccessful attacks on Teal, waders and Pipits and
there were still c20 Greenshank in Verevågen along with Redshank, Knot and
Dunlin.
A few wader flocks continued to head SE offshore in
the evening where an hour’s watch produced 51 Dunlin, 21 Knot, 7 Oystercatchers
and single Ruff, Turnstone and Golden Plover along with 2 more Bonxie and 2
juvenile Arctic Terns.
Dunlin under attack from all sides in Sevika
including this Sparrowhawk
