Still sunny but with a
pretty brisk easterly wind with the main feature again being a good passage of 37+ Sparrowhawks mainly heading NW up
the coast but with birds flying around all over the place so the count is not
too accurate! Other raptors with them
included 9+ Kestrels, 2 juvenile Peregrines and one of the juvenile Marsh Harriers;
also around through the morning were 3 Tree Pipits, 3 Yellow Wagtails and a
flock of 15 Tree Sparrows (been very scarce so far this autumn) while there
were no real oddities on the sea with the exception of a group of 4 Goldeneye
south in amongst a few waders flocks – Dunlin, Knot, Ringed Plover and
Sanderling and 300+ Greylag Geese.
The coast was quiet mainly due to the easterly wind
which had reached gale force by lunchtime (the Sparrowhawks had also stopped
moving with the increased wind) with 13 Greenshank and a Sanderling the wader highlights. It was extremely windy through the afternoon
with rain arriving in the evening so not much was seen with 51 Greylag Geese on
Vågsvollvåien and 3 Greenshank, 4 Wood Sandpipers and 10 Common Sandpipers in
the area.
Had to be quick to get a picture of the Sparrowhawks bombing along the coast
