A very similar day to
yesterday with the strong easterly wind slackening off a little for the first
couple of hours before springing up again later on; a much quieter day with a
Garden Warbler and a Tree Pipit in the nets while the only thing of note on the
sea was a group of 3 juvenile Little
Gulls which went south at 07:20.
It was quieter inland as well with an increase to 12+
Tree Pipits and a good total of 28 Whinchats the only migrants to be present in
good numbers as there was only a couple each of Spotted and Pied Flycatchers
and a Redstart in Lebeltet. Raptors
though were prominent through the day as totals included 4 Marsh Harriers, the
female Goshawk, 9+ Sparrowhawks, 3
Merlins, 3 Kestrels and at least 3 Peregrines seen whizzing around scaring
everything.
There was an increase in birds out across the fields
with 65 Ruff, 110 Golden Plover and 52 Lapwings counted but the coast was
quieter with much reduced numbers of Dunlin and Knot while other bits included
a Little Stint, 3 Spotted Redshanks and 100+ Teal.
Its not often that a Spotted Redshank lets you walk right up to it so I thought I'd make the most of him!
