SWEDEN - 7th July

A much nicer and sunnier day but the wind did increase steadily throughout; ringing at Rysjön produced some nice highlights including a Wryneck (if there is such a thing it was though, the worst Wryneck ever – it was in full wing moult with extremely worn primaries and primary coverts, had no tail and was a re-trap!), 2 Nuthatches (very white Scandinavian birds), a couple of juvenile Treecreepers, another fluffy potato of a juvenile Thrush Nightingale and a Song Thrush (my first in Kvismaren).

Other birds included a Black Woodpecker, a Green Woodpecker, a Hobby, 90+ Swifts, good flight views of 2 Bitterns, 10 Wood Sandpipers, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits and a further increase in the juvenile Goldeneye flock – up to 25 now.

An afternoon jaunt to the nature reserve called Oset on the outskirts of Orebö was just filled with taking pictures of the many feeding Black Terns right by the paths – amazing stuff while other birds included a Slavonian Grebe, a high adult White-tailed Eagle, 3 fledgling Pied Flycatchers, a Green Sandpiper and some breeding Barnacle Geese (feral?).
