The wind had dropped off
significantly by mid-morning making it so much nicer to be out in the field but
there wasn’t too much new to be seen in the north census route as birds
included a very confiding Lapland Bunting at Bewan, 2 Snow Buntings, 2 Redwings
(dark coburnii birds), 8 Rock Pipits,
a Pintail and 2 Shoveler with 65 Wigeon and 40 Teal, a Kestrel, a big young
female Peregrine, a Black-tailed Godwit and a Great-northern Diver. Went back up in the afternoon for a
seawatch which turned out to be very productive despite the light rain which
moved in around 16:00 as birds included a juvenile Long-tailed Skua close in, 2 Pomarine Skuas (a full-spooned adult and a juvenile), 13 Arctic Skuas, 4
Bonxies, 8 Sooty Shearwaters and 8 Blue Fulmars with a steady stream of Fulmars
and Kittiwakes.
