NORTH RONALDSAY - 10th October

A very pleasant day with lightish winds and plenty of warm sunshine; Holland first thing was a waste of time as I didn’t catch a single bird but there were 11 Whooper Swans on Gretchen and a handful of Brambling around, the Hooking census route was then pretty decent without too many new birds, just nice to be out in the sunshine.   Totals included 2 Greenfinches over The Mill (only the third record this year), 2 Hen Harriers (an adult female and a juvenile male), a juvenile male Peregrine, a Short-eared Owl, 8 Rock Pipits, 3 Wheatears, 5 Swallows, 15 Redwing and 2 Black-tailed Godwit, 10 Bar-tailed Godwits and 2 Ruff on the flooded fields at Cauldhaim.
