SPURN - 3rd February

Drove up to Spurn via a few hours at Rutland Water where, in the North Arm (Burley Fishponds and Fisherman’s carpark) there were 2 Slavonian Grebes, 2 Black-necked Grebes and a pair of Smew along with the other wildfowl and big flocks of Lapwings before a look round the reserve produced another drake Smew, a pair of Peregrines, a singing Cetti’s Warbler and a couple of Chiffchaffs.

Got to Spurn mid-afternoon just in time for a walk round the Triangle where there were 26 White-fronted Geese and a single Pink-footed Goose feeding in Wellfield where there was also a pair of Grey Partridge and 20 Black-tailed Godwits near the tank-blocks.

Peregrines at Rutland Water - the female had an orange darvic ring
