There was nothing too remarkable on the ferry journey to North
Ronaldsay but it was persistent rain throughout; walking round late morning and
afternoon when the weather improved produced the wintering drake Green-winged Teal on Gretchen as the
highlight along with various counts of 5 Knot, 45 Dunlin and 60 Turnstone with
370 Golden Plover, 14 Red-throated Divers and 7 Great-northern Divers offshore,
a selection of ducks including 5 Pintail and 12 Gadwall on Brides Loch with
Teal, Wigeon, Shoveler etc. and a single Pink-footed Goose with Greylags.
Passerines
were few and far between as befits mid-February but included a Linnet, a
Redwing and 2 Meadow Pipits with Rock Pipits, Blackbirds etc.
