14th February

Cruised round a selection of sites around Hereford on this dull, cloudy day; it wasn’t too busy although obviously highlighted by a great flock of 50+ Waxwings feeding on Mistletoe berries in an orchard at Kingsland Rugby Club (Lucktonians); other birds included single drake Pintail at Bodenham and Brockholes Quarry and a Norwegian darvic ringed Black-headed Gull in Hereford.

Though obvious when they were perching up (always into the sun unfortunately) the Waxwing disappeared when they were feeding in the very dense Mistletoe clumps

Fieldfare

J2TN Black-headed Gull was ringed in Oslo in May 2013 and presumably breeds somewhere close by as it is regularly re-sighted in that area; it was also seen in Denmark in August 2013 presumably on passage southwards
