Much lighter easterly
winds throughout the day allowed me to open a few nets in the morning but it
was pretty quiet with a couple each of Song Thrush, Robin and Goldcrest caught
while the only birds of note were 42 Wigeon on Vågsvollvåien and a late
Greenshank which flew south.
I then slogged round most of the area in the improved
conditions but it was hard work with limited new birds seen as totals included
a Red-necked Grebe again in Sevika
where there were 40 Teal and a Shoveler, a calling Black Woodpecker in Lebeltet, a Lapland Bunting over Seviksmarka, a
few raptors including 7 Kestrels which appeared to be slowly moving SE and
single Peregrine and Buzzard, a Short-eared Owl at Vågsvollmarka, 5 Wheatears,
4 Ravens and an unseasonal large gathering of 200+ Swallows over Skollevol.
Later on a Richard’s
Pipit was at Vågsvoll before the inevitable rain moved in late afternoon.
Short-eared Owl
Starlings - finally a big flock, they have been abnormally scarce this autumn!
The latest Goshawk victim - this time a Kestrel
