6th October

Heavy cloud and a raging force 8 easterly wind gave the day a very different feel; a walk first thing produced a Red-necked Grebe in Sevika, a Jack Snipe in Seviksmarka and a group of 30 Pink-footed Geese resting out on Steinodden.   A couple of hours looking at the sea then produced good numbers of ducks including 82 Wigeon, 3 Long-tailed Ducks, 78 Common Scoter, 27 Velvet Scoter and 29 Red-breasted Mergansers along with another 2 Pink-footed Geese, the first little movement of 124 Razorbills and 36 Red-throated Divers while single Merlin and Goshawk were around.

A look out at Steinodden in the blazing wind then produced single Shoveler and Pintail, a Jack Snipe hiding in the rocks, a Brent Goose south and a flock of 20 Dunlin which contained my first Purple Sandpiper of the autumn; there was little else to mention just good numbers of Goldcrests in Lebeltet and a few Grey Wagtails around.
