Calm
again first thing with the breeze having shifted round to the east; there was
no real overhead passage with the change in wind direction but plenty of birds
were milling around including Bramblings, Siskins, Reed Buntings etc. while
interesting bits included distant views of a Great White Egret which flew NW along the coast, a Hen Harrier
south, a Buzzard over, a Short-eared Owl over just before dawn, a male Goshawk again and more 28 more Herons
heading NW. We caught 54 new birds
including an influx of 30 Goldcrests and a couple of Redwings.
The
afternoon, in the now pretty strong easterly wind produced awesome views of the
Gyrfalcon perched out on Steinodden
again, the Great Grey Shrike around
Sevika again, presumably the same Three-toed
Woodpecker in Lebeltet, another Short-eared Owl and a Lapland Bunting on
Steinodden and a few Red-throated Divers and Guillemots heading south.
Gyrfalcon - still awesome!
Brambling
A live Short-eared Owl lingering dangerously close to the Gyrfalcon!
With two Gyrfalcons, several Goshawks and numerous Peregrines around its a very bad time to be a medium sized bird at the moment - two depredated Short-eared Owls and a very fresh Mallard were found this afternoon
