An average morning in the nets at Fågelsjön highlighted by single Red-backed Shrike, Marsh Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat and Marsh Tit but there was plenty to see around the site throughout started off in fine style with a Nightjar flying around the platform before it was even half-light as I was cycling to set the first net up.
Other birds included plenty of waders flying around, often just heard calling, which included Temminck’s Stint, Ringed Plover (6), Ruff (16), Lapwing (c800), Greenshank, Spotted Redshank, Dunlin, Snipe and Wood Sandpiper plus a flock of c26 small waders being chased by a Hobby which I didn’t really get on but was probably a mixture of Dunlin and Curlew Sandpipers, 2 Caspian Terns noisily over early on (an adult and a juvenile), c25 Wigeon, 500+ Cranes and 3 Great White Egrets.
A walk round a very windy reserve in the afternoon produced a few bits including 2 Peregrines causing havoc over Löten, a distant adult male ‘grey’ Harrier seen from the Löten platform which was probably a Hen Harrier, 19 Dunlin and 11 Ringed Plover from Hammarmaden, 2 Slavonian Grebes and single Whinchat and Tree Pipit.
