Another quiet morning at Ason both in the nets and overhead, again there was no real ringing highlights but birds seen through the session included 2 Grey Wagtails, 2 Common Sandpipers, 5 Marsh Harriers leaving their roost, at least 5 White-tailed Eagles mooching around and a Black Woodpecker while 6 Tree Pipits, 6 Chaffinches, 2 Bramblings, a Redpoll and 81 Siskins went south.
It clouded over in the afternoon so I went back to Ason to explore the northern bit of the island but it was super-quiet with the exception of a single Hawfinch and a few small flocks of Cranes heading south totalling 36 birds.
Nuthatch – very different to the ones we get in the UK, much longer billed and of course, bright white underparts
