My first Swedish Woodcock was on the road along the back way to Ason before dawn; there were a few more clouds than of late and an annoying little breeze at Ason first thing which led to an extremely quiet session both in the nets – two Bramblings were the highlight and overhead where meagre totals comprised 65 Siskin, 16 Chaffinches, 18 Brambling, 2 Greenfinch, 4 Tree Pipits, 8 Yellow Wagtails, 3 Sparrowhawks, 3 White-tailed Eagles, a Hobby and a Black Woodpecker while a huge flock of 850+ Swallows left their roost at first light and spent some time extremely high over the site before drifting off south.
