NORTH RONALDSAY - 4th April
Not a bad day, largely overcast with a brisk ENE wind
eventually swinging round into the east and dropping slightly in the afternoon
when there was a brief spell of light rain; the trickle of typical early spring
migrants continued without becoming too busy as totals from around the Obs and
up the west coast through the morning included 2 Merlin, 8+ Robins, 2 Stonechats
(males at the Obs and at Trebb), a Song Thrush, 6 Redwing, a Chiffchaff,
2 Goldcrests, 2 Chaffinches and the overdue first Brambling
of the year at the Obs in the evening. A
little look around the top end in the afternoon produced more of the same
including 7 Robins, a Dunnock, a Chiffchaff, 4 Redwings and a Lesser
Black-backed Gull.
