THAILAND - 7th February

Flew down to Southern Thailand yesterday to Krabi on the west coast; had an early walk on the boardwalk through the Mangroves in Krabi Town where the highlight was excellent but brief views of a cracking MANGROVE PITTA.   Other birds seen in the Mangroves and along the river front included several very noisy BROWN-WINGED KINGFISHERS, a few PACIFIC SWALLOWS and RED-BELLIED SWALLOWS hawking around, a CHESTNUT-BELLIED MALKOHA, a couple of ASIAN GLOSSY STARLINGS and a flyover immature WHITE-BELLIED SEA-EAGLE.

Arrived at our hippy dippy beach hut accommodation down near Ao Nambai mid-afternoon and a walk through the thin strip of forest along the shore produced a few birds including a LARGE HAWK-CUCKOO, a couple of DOLLARBIRDS, a few CHESTNUT-HEADED BEE-EATERS, a pair of LINNEATED BARBETS, a GREY-CAPPED PYGMY WOODPECKER, a COMMON FLAMEBACK (which I removed from a net in the forest!), an ASHY MINIVET, a couple of Hoopoes, a pair of ORIENTAL WHITE-EYES, a pair of DARK-NECKED TAILORBIRDS and a few migrants/wintering birds including 3+ ASIAN BROWN FLYCATCHERS, a DARK-SIDED FLYCATCHER and a GREY-BACKED SHRIKE while a flock of 30+ White Storks seemingly came in off the sea and continued north.
