Battled low, dense cloud,
drizzle and rain during a few hours of birding along the mountain roads from
first light but the weather made it hard work but birds seen did include a
couple of big flocks of JAPANESE
WHITE-EYES and GREY-CHEEKED FULVETTAS,
a smart STEERE’S LIOCICHLA, a RUFOUS-CAPPED BABBLER, a couple of COLLARED FINCHBILLS, a pair of GREY-CHINNED MINIVETS, 2 ORIENTAL TURTLE DOVES, a pair of GREY TREEPIES and more flocks of
yesterday’s birds including Taiwan Yuhina, White-eared Sibia and Black Bulbuls.
The weather really closed in by mid-morning so we had
a crazy drive over the mountain roads into Taroko NP (snow and sleet showers
with thick fog at the highest point!) but we did see a smart WHITE-WHISKERED LAUGHING-THRUSH
somewhere on the top. We got to
Tangswin mid-afternoon where it was slightly better visibility – still
drizzling though where we added a couple of BROWN-HEADED THRUSHES and TAIWAN
WHISTLING-THRUSHES plus more Plumbeous Redstarts, Green-backed Tits and Asian
House Martins.
Also of note were a couple of Formosan Macaques seen in the forest.
Didn't get any cameras out today due to the shocking weather, I think these were from the following morning
Daurian Redstart
