Blustery throughout the
morning with frequent sharp showers scudding through; these conditions produced
an excellent selection of birds on the sea highlighted by 11 Pomarine Skuas, most giving brilliant views as they passed by
close inshore and a 1st summer White-billed
Diver. Other birds included 5
Arctic Skuas (plus three more unidentified Skuas), 5 Great-northern Divers, 12
Kittiwakes, a Tystie, 5 Tufted Ducks, 4 Purple Sandpipers and my overdue first
3 Common Terns of the year while a
Short-eared Owl came in off, right over the hide and there was a Temminck’s Stint and a pair of Gadwall on
Vågsvollvåien.
The rest of the day was pretty quiet dodging the
showers in the still blustery NW wind with a drake Garganey on Fuglejønna, 24
Whimbrel, a Turnstone and 5 Swifts in Verevågen and 2 Wood Sandpipers and 29
Dunlin in Vågsvollvika.
