Beautiful, calm and sunny
to start with but probably too nice to drop in many migrants as the nets were
pretty quiet with single Garden Warbler, Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat the
highlight; the sea was also very slow compared to yesterday and was limited to
a few Red-breasted Mergansers, 2 Kittiwakes and a probable 1st
summer Mediterranean Gull which I only got onto for a few seconds before it
disappeared round the corner. The rest
of the morning’s birds consisted of single Black-tailed Godwit, Greenshank and
Wood Sandpiper on Vågsvollvåien.
There were a few good, new birds around in the afternoon
with the first Cuckoo of the year
singing just beyond Vatnemarka where there was also a singing Quail in a grass field and an Osprey which flew south over Verevågen being
mobbed by Common Gulls. Other birds
included 9 Dotterel still at
Vågsvoll, 2 Grey-headed Wagtails and a few more Blue-headed Wagtails mostly
paired up now.
The day’s highlight (in Norwegian terms anyway) came
late afternoon as I relocated the 1st summer Mediterranean Gull roosting on Vågsvollvåien - a Norwegian tick and
a much bigger deal over here than it is back in the UK!; the three Ruff were
also still present.

The Osprey wasn't popular amongst the local Common Gulls!
