Nice and sunny but the
strong easterly from yesterday had turned into an even stronger north-westerly
so I could only get a couple of nets open; this didn’t stop the day’s highlight
though as one of the three birds caught was a cracking THRUSH NIGHTINGALE – only the seventh to be ringed here! A few bits on the sea included a group of 5 Dotterel north, a summer plumaged
Black-throated Diver and an Arctic Tern while on Vågsvollvåien in the morning
there were 3 Garganey (two females
and a drake), the drake Gadwall still and a Black-tailed Godwit with a total of
62 Whimbrel in several flocks that kept appearing.
A walk round the coast was a bit quiet in the strong
wind but there were 7 more Dotterel
with some Golden Plover on Steinodden, 4 Greenshank, 4 Common Sandpipers, a
Dunlin and 12 Redshank. Migrants around
the plantations included 7 Whinchats, 4 Pied Flycatchers, 8 Blackcaps, a Garden
Warbler, 30+ Willow Warblers, the singing Wryneck
again, 5 Lesser Whitethroats, 6 Whitethroats and 4 Redstarts while out on
Gunnarsmyra there were yet another 6 Dotterel
with an increased 350+ Golden Plover, a Wood Sandpiper and 2 Grey-headed
Wagtails.
Thrush Nightingale
Garden Warbler
Redstart
Whinchat
Tree Pipit
I've probably seen more Dotterel in the last ten days than I ever have before put together!
