An overcast but pleasant
day but it was fairly quiet with the nets again disappointingly quiet with just
a little influx of new Blackcaps of note while on the sea 5 Arctic Skuas flew
north along with a Kittiwake and an Arctic Tern with the Tystie was still
offshore; the adult White-tailed Eagle
flew north over the lighthouse first thing.
The coast was also pretty quiet with the drake
Pintail in Sevika and 6 Whimbrel, a pair of Garganey and a Swift in Verevågen
before a look through Lebeltet produced my first Spotted Flycatcher of the year, 4 Pied Flycatchers, 5 Tree Pipits
and 4 Lesser Whitethroats. There were
still 25 Dotterel on the field at
Vågsvoll (still a flock to be reckoned with!) while there were 3 more Garganey,
the drake Gadwall, 2 Wood Sandpipers and a Grey-headed Wagtail on Vågsvollvåien
and a Grey Plover and 13 Dunlin in Vågsvollvika.
Some other random bits included 3 Carrion Crows and a
Rook out in the fields, 4 Twite at the lighthouse and good numbers of
hirundines around with 19 House Martins being the best count so far this year.
- Read a few Gull rings on Vågsvollvåien in the
afternoon including a couple of 4th year Great Black-backed Gulls
returning to their natal area for the first time since being ringed as chicks;
one has been seen regularly across the water in Denmark for the last couple of
years and the other has been seen a few times down in France and Belgium again
over the last few years.
