Persistent rain right through
the morning prevented much being done with the only birds seen being a smart
male Lapland Bunting on Vågsvollvåien
with the 3 Ruff, a Wood Sandpiper and 7
Dunlin in Vågsvollvika. The rain stopped
around lunchtime but almost immediately a blazing north-westerly near-gale
sprang up (there was a small window between the rain and the wind but it was
very short!); there were a few waders around the coast with 8 Dotterel on Steinodden and 22 Whimbrel,
a Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Turnstone and 7 Dunlin at Karveneset while an adult male
Peregrine was lurking on Skarvodden.
There were two drake Gadwall on Vågsvollvåien in the
afternoon along with a drake Tufted Duck who kept bothering a pair of
Red-breasted Mergansers who chased him off a couple of times; two Dotterel were still on regular field at
Vågsvoll while there were very few migrants along the sheltered side of
Lebeltet where breeding activity was more noteworthy with a pair of Whinchat nest
building and a pair of Siskins mate feeding.
