(not) LANDGUARD - 9th June

A wonderful morning spent walking round Walberswick NNR in glorious, calm, sunny and then very warm conditions; the highlight was good but fairly distant views of the first-summer Purple Heron which has been around there for the last few days.

Other birds included a pair of Firecrests seen on the south side of the reedbed in woodland on the edge of Dunwich Forest, a Spotted Flycatcher, loads of confiding Bearded Tits with plenty of exploring juveniles, 2 Hobbies, two singing Woodlarks, lots of singing Cetti’s, Reed, Sedge, Garden Warblers, booming Bitterns, a group of six drake Eiders just offshore and clouds of Four-spot Chasers rising from the reedbeds.
