(not) LANDGUARD - 2nd June

A fine, warm morning with a light onshore breeze saw me walking round Minsmere again where there was, as always a nice array of birds which included a drake Garganey from North Hide, two first-summer Little Gulls on East Scrape (with presumably the same two over Island Mere later) and a good mix of waders on the main scrapes comprising 5 Ringed Plovers, a Whimbrel over, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits, 14 Black-tailed Godwits, 7 Turnstone, a smart summer plumaged Knot, 2 Grey Plover, 14 Sanderling and 5 Dunlin.

Amongst the breeding birds was a very showy, singing male Dartford Warbler along the beach, good views of maybe 5 Bitterns including three flying around together having a weird mid-air tussle, 2 Cuckoos, another French ringed Mediterranean Gull and loads of baby Avocets and Black-headed Gulls running around.
