NORTH RONALDSAY - 23rd July

Misty again first thing with a light easterly wind but it soon cleared to leave a very pleasant day; mist-netted some Tysties early morning at Gretchen with the oldest one being from 2008 but the five Arctic Skuas patrolling the coast didn’t help!   I then walked bits of the middle census route where the few birds included 2 Shovelers on Ancum, a Common Redpoll at Sandar and a few waders at Westness with 120+ Dunlin (just three juveniles), 2 Knot and 25 Turnstone.

Finished off a few Tystie chicks up the west coast in the afternoon where there were 5 Purple Sandpiper and a Fulmar originally ringed in 1986!

Pout (?)

These are a selection of fish dropped by the Tysties during the mist netting
